New Map Details UK’s 500+ Anaerobic Digestion Plants

For suppliers, developers and businesses in waste management, a comprehensive list of those plants who employ tank breather valves for purposes involving anaerobic digestion has been long overdue – however, a brand new interactive map by the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) has been launched chronicling those plants employing the process to produce biogas from food waste, agricultural materials, industrial effluents and sewage.

ADBA already provided data and market reports for the anaerobic digestion industry, but this new tool heralds a fresh, easy-to-use resource for those looking to identify sites – a figure that now sits above 500 according to Farming UK.

Charlotte Morton, Chief Executive of the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association, says that the map demonstrates the growth of anaerobic digestion: “The growth of the AD industry to 540 operational sites is hugely welcome, providing the equivalent of over 700MW capacity for green electricity generation and offering a sustainable option for food waste, farming and water treatment,” she said, while calling on the government to put more funding into renewable energy sources and waste reduction.

The map chronicles whether the plant is a producer of electricity, heat or biomethane and whether sites are agricultural, industrial, commercial or sewage sludge plants using simple symbols. View the map here and you can search among the 540 sites throughout the UK and Northern Ireland.

Motherwell Tank Protection is ready to grow with the industry as a leading provider of biogas plant equipment which has supplied many of the plants you’ll find on this interactive map.
