What Is The Renewable Heat Incentive?

Pressure vacuum relief valves are essential to any biogas company, and so is understanding the Renewable Heat Incentive.

The Renewable Heat Incentive was bought in in 2014 by the Government in a bid to help it achieve its aims of achieving 12 per cent of energy produced from renewables by 2020.

It is open to either domestic or non-domestic applicants and can be used for a wide range of different renewable energy sources. Biomass boilers attract 6.74p p/kWh, air source heat pumps, 10.49 p/kWh, ground source heat pumps 20.46p p/kWh, and solar thermal 20.66p p/kWh.

Changes have been introduced this spring following a consultation last year. The main changes you should be aware of if you are already part of the scheme or if you are considering applying are the need for electricity metres to be installed alongside the heating system, extra payments for people who already are part of the scheme under the Metering and Monitoring Service Package (MMSP), and plans for digression in the rates for new applicants if the number increases.

This means that if the scheme is particularly successful, and exceeds a growth rate much higher than predicted, the amount of money that new applicants could get for participating in the scheme will be lowered. This will only happen after changes to the rate have been announced in quarterly forecasts.
